Silver Medal for Atom BB Ice Kats in Cambridge
The Kats recently took part in the 22nd Annual Roadrunners Tournament. The competition was excellent  with many of the top teams from across the province participating. In the opening game, Morgan Flannigan was very sharp in goal and Delaney Hancock scored the game winner as the Kats defeated the Chatham Outlaws 1-0.  Ashtyn Hickey earned an assist. Flannigan was selected the KEWL player of the game.

In game two, the girls dominated puck possession throughout the contest versus Ancaster. Again, the girls earned a 1-0 victory with Emma Belk scoring the winner set up by Delaney Hancock. Hancock was the KEWL player of the game. Hannah McKenzie earned the shutout in net.

In the final game of the round robin against Waterloo the girls tied Waterloo 1-1. Delaney Hancock scored the lone goal for the Kats. Mikayla Williams demonstrated a lot of poise with the puck on defence and was named the KEWL player of the game for her efforts.

The girls earned first place in their pool and qualified to play the LLFHL leading Etobicoke Dolphins in the semifinals. The team rallied from an early deficit to tie the game on the strength of two goals from Taylor Yanagdiara. Assists went to Belk, Williams & Hickey. Both teams were held scoreless in the 3 on 3 overtime period. This set the stage for Yanagiara’s shootout winner to send the girls into their third straight tournament final versus the LLFHL West leading Lakeshore Lightening. In the final, the girls battled to a 0-0 draw in regulation time. Hannah McKenzie was excellent in goal turning away the Lightening repeatedly throughout the contest.  A very fast paced overtime period could not solve the tie as both goaltenders turned away excellent scoring chances. Eventually, Lakeshore scored the lone goal of the shootout to earn the tournament championship in dramatic fashion.

The girls play the final game of their regular season on Saturday January 30 versus the West Northumberland Wild in a battle for first place in the LLFHL East Division.
