Midget AA Ice Kats compete in Stoney Creek Showcase
The Peterborough Midget AA Ice Kats participated in the 64 team Stoney Creek Midget AA Showcase Tournament over the weekend and played 5 teams from south of the border.

After a handful of practices, the Ice Kats jumped into game action Friday morning, playing the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals at the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre on Hamilton mountain.  Milwaukee took the lead on a powerplay goal early in the second period, and stretched the lead to 2 in the middle of the 3rd.  Ice Kat defender Hannah Kawalec took a pass from Jilly MacIver and cut the lead in half with a slapshot from the right point, but the game ended in a 2-1 loss.
In the 2nd game on Friday, Peterborough relied on strong goaltending by Sophy Wood to hold them in the game.  Trailing 1-0 to Team Illinois in the final minute of regulation, Jilly MacIver took a pass from Sydney Paulson at the Illinois blue line, deked past 2 defenders and scored with a wrister blocker side to tie the game with 37 seconds left.  Alicia Wake had the other assist on the goal.  The game ended in a 1-1 draw after 3 minutes of 4-on-4 overtime.
Saturday was “Chicago Day" for the Ice Kats.  Peterborough played the Chicago Young Americans in the morning, coming away with a 1-0 win after a 2nd period goal by MacIver, assisted by Kawalec and Paulson.  Goaltender Maddy Roche registered the shutout.
Saturday afternoon the Ice Kats battled a tough Chicago Mission team, losing 4-1.  Sydney Paulson scored the lone Peterborough goal in the 3rd period, assisted by Maddy O'Neill-Hawthorne.
Peterborough completed the tournament on Sunday morning, losing 2-0 to the Minnesota Blades.
"We had the rare opportunity to play State teams and teams from large American cities at this tournament.  The girls played hard and it has given us a good picture of what we need to improve on as we move towards the start of the regular season in October." said Head Coach Mark McArthur.
The Midget AA's travel to Kingston to play the Ice Wolves in Exhibition play Friday night.
