Respectable Showing by Midget AA Ice Kats
The Peterborough Kings Auto Wreckers Midget AA Ice Kats hockey team participated in the Stoney Creek Showcase tournament over the weekend (September 8-10) and proved they can play with top teams from Canada and the USA. The 64 team tournament provides an opportunity for Hockey Scouts from Canadian and American Colleges and Universities to assess player skills for future recruitment and scholarship opportunities.
Peterborough started the tournament playing Detroit Belle Tire, registering a 3-1 loss, with Kate Taylor scoring the lone Ice Kats goal, assisted by Sydney Paulson.
The Ice Kats faced the Bluewater Hawks on Friday night and came up short with a 2-1 loss. Hannah Kawalec scored the Ice Kats goal with a blast from the point.
On Saturday morning Peterborough squared off against the Toronto Aeros, with Kate Taylor scoring the lone Ice Kats goal in another 2-1 loss. Danielle MacDowall and Taylor McArthur were credited with assists.
The Ice Kats then battled hard against a big physical team from Manitoba, earning a 1-1 tie against the Winnipeg Avros. Grace Adie-Berube scored the lone Peterborough goal, assisted by Amelia Lackie. Goaltender Amanda Storey played a strong game in net for Peterborough.
The Ice Kats finished off the 5 game tournament on Sunday morning, playing with only 3 blue liners due to illness and injury. Maddie Roche earned the shutout for Peterborough, with Abby Cassidy scoring both Peterborough goals in the 2-0 win against the Chicago Fury. Assists went to Lauren Bell (2) and Maddy O’Neill-Hawthorne.
The Midget AA Ice Kats will continue with practices and exhibition games until the regular season starts in October.
