The gold medal game
required an over-time period followed by a shootout to decide the championship game
between Peterborough and Whitby.
Both teams played strong defensive hockey not allowing many good scoring chances for either team. The game ended tied 1-1 at the completion of regulation time. There was a 5 minute 4 on 4 sudden victory overtime period during which neither team was able to score the winning goal. Finally, the game and the gold medal came down to the dreaded shootout. Angela Crowley was the lone shooter able to beat the opposition goalie and score a goal while Peterborough goaltender Allison Juniper held all three Whitby shooters scoreless resulting in a nail biting 2-1 win for the home town Ice Kats. The gold medal win was a result of strong team play by all the Ice Kat players as well as solid goaltending from both Ice Kat goaltenders during each of the four tournament games.
