Intermediate A Ice Kats earn the Silver medal in the 2015 Provincials
The Intermediate A Ice Kats played their best hockey of the season winning the Silver medal at the 2015 Provincials this past weekend.

This Silver medal finish in the 2015 Provincials complements their Bronze medal finish in the 2014 Provincials. The Ice Kats opened the weekend with a 1-0 win over the Mississauga Chiefs on a goal scored by Brandi Buchannan. Next, the Ice Kats were victorious over both the Kitchener Lady Rangers and the North York Storm by scores of 3-0 in each of the respective games. Goals were scored by Sam Tallman (2), Angela Crowley, Marlaina Fox, Kassandra Eby and Stephanie Sparkman. The Ice Kats finished the round robin play with a perfect 3 win record. Shutouts were earned by both Ice Kat goalies, Allison Juniper and Taylor McVeigh.

The Ice Kats moved on to the quarter finals where they had to once again play the Kitchener Lady Rangers. The Ice Kats rolled over Kitchener for a second time with a decisive victory of 7-0. Goals were scored by Angela Crowley (2), Sam Tallman (2), Kassandra Eby, Annie Vyse and Stephanie Sparkman.

The Ice Kats advanced to the semi finals finding themselves competing against the top finishing team from the western league, the St Catharines Brock Jr Badgers. This was the toughest challenge for the Ice Kats to this point in the Provincials. The Ice Kats fell behind 1-0 but responded back with three unanswered goals to win the game 3-1. Goals were scored by Marlaina Fox (2) and Karlie O'Grady. This win qualified the Ice Kats to compete in the gold medal game of the Provincials.

The gold medal game of the Provincials saw the Ice Kats taking on the Cambridge Roadrunners. Unfortunately, the Ice Kats found themselves in some penalty trouble early in the game and fell behind 2-0. The Ice Kats were not able to recover from this early deficit. The Roadrunners added a couple more goals later in the game, eventually winning the contest and the gold medal by a score of 4-0. The Ice Kats came a way with the Silver medal for their efforts after a great weekend of hockey. The Ice Kats have 4 graduating players, Angela Crowley, Kassandra Eby, Taylor Edwards and Annie Vyse. These graduating ladies took the ice together to play the final minute of the game and received thunderous cheers from their teammates as well as the Ice Kat fans in the stands, a true show of respect for a group of well liked graduating teammates. These graduating ladies have all played with the Intermediate A Ice Kats for multiple seasons and will be greatly missed by their teammates next season.

The Intermediate A Ice Kats have one more weekend of hockey that will complete their very successful 2014-15 season in which they have earned the right to compete in the LLFHL Championship weekend on March 27-29.
