The Intermediate A Ice
Kats have started 2020 on a high note winning the gold medal in the 2020
Scarborough Sharks New Year’s Classic tournament.
The Ice Kats lost their
first round robin game to Durham West by a score of 1-0. However, that would be
their only loss of the weekend as they would go on to defeat Oshawa by a score
of 4-1 and North York Storm by a score of 8-1. Their round robin record secured
a place in the semi finals against Lakeshore Lightning, a team the Ice Kats
have not faced this season. The Ice Kats earned a 5-0 win against Lakeshore
setting up a rematch against Durham West for the gold medal.
The gold medal game was a nail biting game that needed overtime to settle the rematch as the score was deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time. Just over a minute into the overtime period, Lindsey Owen scored on a wrist shot to the top corner of the net to secure the gold medal for the Ice Kats. The gold medal win was a result of strong team play by all the Ice Kat players as well as exceptional goaltending from Tori Proulx as she only allowed a total of 5 goals during the tournament.
