Intermediate Ice Kats strike Lower Lakes Championship Weekend Gold
The Intermediate A Ice Kats capped off a great season of
hockey by winning the gold medal in the Lower Lakes Championship Weekend. The
team had a record of 2 wins and 1 loss in the round robin part of the weekend.
The Ice Kats scored a decisive 5–1 win
over the Kitchener Lady Rangers followed by a well fought 2 -1 loss to the
Guelph Jr Gryphons but bounced back to beat the Whitby Wolves 6–3 in the final game of round robin play. This 2 win
and 1 loss round robin performance earned the Ice Kats a berth in the gold
medal match versus the Guelph Jr Gryphons. Regulation time of the gold medal
game solved nothing as the score was deadlocked at 1 -1 and the game was headed
to overtime.
Four minutes into overtime, Violet Hipkin snapped a wrist shot off the goal post and into Guelph’s net to secure the gold medal for the Peterborough squad. The entire team played well all weekend with contributions coming from the whole lineup, especially from the play of both Peterborough goalies who played outstanding all weekend long.
