Bronze at LLFHL Championship Weekend
The Atom AA Ice Kats qualified for the Lower Lakes Championship Weekend held in Toronto this weekend. The girls started the weekend with a couple of disappointing losses on Friday to Stoney Creek Sabres and Markham Stoufville Stars. They bounced back to compete hard on Saturday, with a close game against North Halton Twisters, advancing to the Bronze Medal Game.
The Atom AA's faced Markham Stoufville Stars in the Bronze medal game. Having lost to Markham the day before, the girls were out for revenge. The game was a hard fought, back and forth, physical battle.
The Ice Kats got on the score board first at the beginning of the 2nd period, with a goal from Britney Foster, assisted by Portia Asta.
Markham then came back with a goal mid-way through the second period tying the game at 1-1.
1 minute later, the Ice Kats came back at full force with a goal scored by Abby Brumwell, assisted by Sophie Fife and Lily Merrick.
The Ice Kats didn't stop the pressure on Markham, scoring another goal just before the 1 minute mark of the 2nd period. Sophie Fife took a shot from the point, which was tipped by Lily Merrick toward Kaylynn Fisher. Kaylynn buried it into the net to take the lead 3-1.
The girls played a defensive 3rd period holding off Markham and winning the bronze medal with a final score of 3-1. Way to go Ice Kats!
Keep up the hard work at Provincials April 5th to 7th!
