Atom AA Ice Kats Win 3rd GOLD Medal!

The Atom AA Ice Kats competed in the Cambridge Roadrunners 25th Annual New Years’ Challenge Cup Girls Hockey Tournament on the weekend, bringing home their 3rd GOLD medal in tournament action this season!

They competed hard over the weekend, with each and every player contributing to the teams success!

In the first game of the tournament, the girls took on Barrie Sharks.  It was a back and forth game, with the Ice Kats coming out with the 5-3 win.  Goals were scored by Brumwell (assisted by Chambers and Jarbeau), Foster (unassisted), Brumwell (assisted by Chambers), Merrick (assisted by A. Mann and Rogers), Brumwell (assisted by Merrick).

Game two of the tournament was a hard fought, defensive battle against Sudbury Lady Wolves, where the game ended in a 0-0 tie.  Shut out went to D'Alessandro!

Game three of the tournament saw the girls facing Oakville Hornets, where it was a tight, back and forth game.  The Ice Kats came out on top with a 1-0 win.  Goal scored by Brumwell (assisted by Chambers and Merrick).  Shut out went to Leahy!

This put the girls in 1st place after the round robin.  The Atom AA's advanced to the GOLD medal game where they had a rematch vs Oakville Hornets.  The game was a close game with back and forth action.  The Ice Kats got on the score board first with a goal from Asta (assisted by Martone).  This goal was followed by 2 goals from Oakville.  The girls didn't give up and kept the pressure going.  The Ice Kats put the puck in the net to make it a 2-2 tie.  Goal scored by Merrick (unassisted).  The game was tied at the end of regulation.  This forced the girls into a 3 vs 3 overtime period, where the puck ricocheted toward the defence, the defence stepped in and let a rocket go!  Amazing goal scored by Murray (assisted by Merrick).

It was a GREAT weekend of hockey where the goaltenders played fantastic and the girls hard work paid off with the GOLD medal.  Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a successful weekend of hockey!!
