Tryout Information
Welcome to the Midget BB tryouts

I would like to welcome all the players to the Midget BB tryouts and to inform everyone involved about the tryout process.  There will be 2 tryouts at the Memorial Centre followed by 2 away exhibition games.  First releases will be done after the May 4th tryout via posting on the Ice Kats website.  Final releases will be done after each exhibition game.  In person final releases may not be possible due to the logistics of not being at one of our home rinks. If that is the case, the final selections will be posted on the Ice Kats website and if any player/parent wants individual feedback on the evaluation they are welcome to call me.

Tryout Preparation and Expectation

  • The players should come to the tryout sessions focused on working hard and having fun.  It can be a stressful time for the players and all the families, but I would ask everyone to keep things in perspective as the process unfolds.
  • Myself, and qualified evaluators will be conducting the evaluations.
  • We will be evaluating for a combination of:
    • Core skating and puck skills
    • Work ethic and compete levels
    • Impact in game situations (scrimmages and/or exhibition games) – this may come through skill plays, but it may also come through hustle and work ethic.  Both are key attributes for a successful player, and we will be looking for players that not only have strong skills but also show a willingness to work hard, engage, compete and battle.
  • Players should arrive at tryouts in good physical condition and ready for game situations.

The Future Season

This team will play in the very competitive Midget BB division of the LLFHL. Playing for this team requires a big commitment for both the parents and the players.  Players must commit to the team while at the same time stay committed to their school studies. This Ice Kat team will be on the ice approximately 100 times this year (practices, games and tournaments).   I appreciate the Midget age players have many other time commitments other than hockey.  I will work with the players to accommodate schedules within reason.  Communication is the key!!!

Sincerely,

Pete Ludgate
