Bantam A's Take Gold in Caledon
The Bantam A Ice Kats had an excellent weekend of hockey winning the gold medal game in style.

The girls took a hard loss the first game of the tournament losing 1-0 with 3:46 left in the 3rd. With a positive attitude going into the 2nd game the team came to play taking a commanding lead and not looking back to a 9-0 win. The 3rd game was no different as the girls were pumped and ready to go, winning strong again 9-0. This gave them a chance going into the gold medal game and something to prove that they won't go down without a fight to Scarborough. The Bantam A's were ready as soon as they stepped onto the ice. You could hear in there voices and there crisp strides on the ice. They were ready for the gold medal game.

The girls set the pace by controlling the play much of the 1st period. With hard work Ashtyn Hickey pulled away from her attackers and went in on a breakaway and scored with 3:27 left in the 1st. The next goal took some time to bang in as we took a little nap going back and forth in the 2nd. Finally we broke the pace and Lauren Jeffery snapped one in the top corner. Scarborough still on the hunt put the pressure on us and got us a little pinned down in our end. With a scramble at the net the puck popped out in front and was tapped in closing out the 2nd being up 2-1. The 3rd was much better with a good pep talk to get them back on track. The play was back and forth in the 3rd with both teams fighting hard to keep possession of the puck. It wasn't till late in the 3rd period that Laura Corrigal was awarded a penalty shot which she scored on a perfect deke at 5:33 remaining. The Ice Kats took a 3-1 lead but the game was far from being over as the refs tried making things more interesting awarding us with not one penalty but 2. The Bantam A's were under fire as Scarborough pulled their goalie making it 6 on 3. With a scuffle in front of our net the refs called a couple of penalties assessing us 2mins and Scarborough 4mins to make us more even. We finished strong to end the game winning 3-1.
