A few words from
Coach Sarah...
What an absolute pleasure it has been to coach the U11A Ice Kats – and the best part is, our season isn’t over yet!
These girls have put in the work from day one. Our journey began back in August with a week at the CHE Camp, where the team built strong connections and laid the foundation for the season ahead. In September, we challenged ourselves early by entering the Oshawa Lady Generals Tournament in the AA division. The girls competed hard in a series of tight games, setting the tone for what was to come.
They carried that momentum into the Clarington Applefest Tournament in October, once again competing in the AA division and advancing to the semi-finals. After an 8-4 round robin loss to Clarington, the team came back stronger and pushed them to a thrilling 5-4 semi-final finish. The growth between games was incredible – and the girls learned,
adapted and closed the gap through determination and teamwork.
In November we were proud finalists in our very own Peterborough Ice Kats Tournament. Facing a strong Napanee team (ranked 1 st in league play), the girls battled to a close 2-1 finish in an exciting championship game.
At the end of league play the girls finished 3rd with a 10-5-5 record. Even more impressive, they led the league in goals for, netting 75 goals in just 20 games – 19 more than the next closest team. Their offensive drive and commitment to improve stood out all season long.
What truly makes this team so special goes far beyond the scoreboard. Their inclusiveness, positivity and unwavering support for one another has been outstanding. Every player is valued, every voice matters, and that’s what defines a great team. They come to the rink ready to work, ready to compete, and ready to have fun. Don’t let their sweet and innocent smiles off the ice fool you, these girls bring determination, grit and a fearless competitive edge.
That same fire will be on full display as we head into the Leaside Tournament (March 20-22) and Provincials (April 10-12)!!
We were also incredibly fortunate to have two amazing female mentors this season: Sophie Hicks, a current Trent University Student and Grace Plunkett, a U18AA Ice Kats player and sister to a member of one of our teammates. Their leadership and encouragement made a lasting impact on our group.
Behind the bench, I am grateful to have worked alongside Assistant Coach, Stacy Leeson and Assistant Coach & Trainer, Andrea Racine – an all-female coaching staff that continues to inspire the next generation and lead by example.
A huge thank you to our incredible support staff, Rianna & Mike Poskins, Nick Rendell and our Manager, Tara King! Your dedication behind the scenes has been invaluable to our success on and off the ice!
And finally, a big shoutout to our generous sponsors:
