Midget AA Ice Kats qualify for OWHA Provincials
The Peterborough Midget AA Ice Kats competed against the West Northumberland Wild and the Belleville Bearcats in a 3-team, home and away Round Robin series in order to determine the sole team to represent Region E-9 at the OWHA Provincial Championships in Mississauga in early April.

In Game 1, Bella Smolen earned a shutout as Peterborough played West Northumberland to a 0-0 tie.  In Game 2, the Ice Kats were trailing West Northumberland 2-0, before scoring 2 goals in the last minute and 10 seconds to earn another tie.  Maddy O’Neill-Hawthorne banged in a rebound for the first Ice Kat goal, assisted by Amanda Willis.  Charlotte Porter tied the game with 37 seconds left, assisted by Hannah Kawalec.
Peterborough travelled to Belleville Wednesday night to face the Bearcats in the first of two must-win games.  Taylor Richmond scored both Peterborough goals and the Ice Kats held on for a 2-1 win.  Amanda Willis, Hannah Healey and Hannah Kawalec registered assists.
In the return match-up at the Evinrude Centre on Friday night, the Midget AA Ice Kats got 2 third period goals from Hannah Kawalec, winning the 3-team Round Robin series with a 2-0 victory.
Maddy Roche registered the shut-out for the Ice Kats.
Head Coach Dave Roche was elated after Friday night’s game, stating “It has been a pleasure watching this team of young ladies develop as individuals and as a team.  We put ourselves behind the 8-ball with the 2 ties against West Northumberland, but the girls battled hard and earned 2 crucial victories against Belleville.  We now set our sights on competing well at the Provincials in early April.  I am very proud of this team."
