Midget AA Ice Kats win UofT Showcase
The Peterborough Midget AA Ice Kats participated in the U of T Showcase tournament at the historic Varsity Arena on Friday and Saturday, going undefeated to claim the A championship.

Peterborough started the tournament facing the Ancaster Avalanche on Friday morning, coming away with a 6-2 victory.  Taylor Richmond scored twice, with singles by Alana Jentas, Amanda Willis, Hannah Kawalec and Ava Flint.  Goals were assisted by Charlotte Porter, Richmond, and Kawalec.
On Friday afternoon Peterborough battled the Ottawa Lady 67’s, posting a 4-2 win.  Ice Kat goals were scored by Charlotte Porter (2), Hannah Kawalec and Taylor Richmond.  Assists went to Amanda Willis, Taylor McArthur, Elyse Ives, and Maddy O’Neill-Hawthorne.
The Ice Kats played in the A final on Saturday morning against the Hockey Training Institute.  In a close battle, Peterborough managed a 2-1 win.  Charlotte Porter scored both Peterborough goals, with Ryan Rupnow registering an assist.
Ice Kat goalies Maddy Roche and Bella Smolen provided solid goaltending for Peterborough.
Head Coach Dave Roche was pleased with the result, saying “It is always a pleasure to see the girls have success at tournaments.  I am hopeful that the team can carry this momentum into the coming weekend, where we play 4 league games in 5 days before the Christmas break”.
The Midget AA ice Kats are sponsored by the Ruttle Group Inc., Smolen Dentistry, Kings Auto Wreckers and Water World Pools.
Peterborough’s next game is on Thursday night at 7:00pm at the Evinrude Centre against the Belleville Bearcats.
