Midget AA Ice Kats play 5 American Hockey Teams
The Peterborough Midget AA Ice Kats competed in the Stoney Creek Midget Showcase Tournament over the weekend, which featured 64 teams from Canada and the USA.

Peterborough started the tournament Friday morning facing the Stars Elite team from Dallas, Texas.  After 2 periods of scoreless hockey, the Ice Kats broke it open scoring 5 goals in the third.  Maddy Roche posted the shutout in the 5-0 win.  Peterborough goals were scored by Julia Defosse, Avery Johnson, Taylor Richmond, Charlotte Porter and Talia Flint, with assists by Alana Jentas, Hannah Kawalec, Taylor McArthur, Richmond and Porter (2).

The Ice Kats battled the Chicago Young Americans in their second game.  In a tight match, Maddy O’Neill-Hawthorne banked in a shot off of a Chicago defender early in the third period for the lone goal of the game.  Ava Flint had the assist.  Bella Smolen posted the shutout in the 1-0 Peterborough win.

On Saturday morning, the Ice Kats defeated the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals 4-2, with goals by Maddy O’Neill-Hawthorne, Charlotte Porter, Hannah Healey and Taylor Richmond.  Assists went to Ava Flint, Avery Johnson and Porter.

Peterborough completed the round robin play Saturday afternoon with a game against Chicago Mission, losing 3-0.

The Ice Kats completed the tournament playing in the Bronze Medal semi-final on Sunday morning against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.  Philadelphia scored an empty netter for the 2-0 win.

Peterborough Head Coach Dave Roche was pleased with the overall level of competition by his players, stating “This tournament provides a great opportunity for our coaching staff to see how our team performs against elite teams early in the season, and helps to identify areas we need to work on.”
