Orangeville Winter Classic DS Tournament
For many of our DS players, this past weekend represented a first travel tournament, making the trek to Orangeville for the DS Winter Classic hosted by the Orangeville Tigers. While the on-ice results underwhelmed at times, there were small victories (first goal!) and a great deal of experience gathered by the team, coaches, and parents.
One of the tangible takeaways of a DS season is the experience and opportunity to represent your Association, City, and Families, and all our players did exceptionally well in this regard, and had a great deal of fun and bonding opportunities. Players and families all had a great time getting to know one another better, and all came home with a positive reflection on the weekend.
Next up in 2 weeks is the Durham West Bolts & Hearts Tournament in Ajax/Pickering - many familiar DS teams will be there for us to prove our worth against, and the coaching staff again looks forward to our girls representing our Team, City, Association, and Families with pride.
It's undeniable our DS players get stronger with each game. Let's never lose sight of the fact that the "D" in "DS" is DEVELOPMENT, so while that first "W" still eludes us, the coaching staff is confident we as a team are getting STRONGER, SMARTER, and FASTER, all qualities that will pay of as this season winds down and gives-way to another one in the fall. We all know DS will get renewed focus in the 2019/2020 season, so keep focus on the future.
Again, thank you to the families and supporters of this program and your unending positive attitudes and commitment to the development of your player. Our Bench may be small, our record may not show it, but our 11 highly-committed skaters have enough heart and passion to fill 2 benches and then-some.
