Intermediate A Ice Kats Win Gold at Ice Kats Tournament
The gold medal game was
a nail biting rematch between the Brampton Canadettes and the home town
Peterborough Ice Kats.
Both teams played strong defensive hockey not
allowing many good scoring chances for either team. The game was tied 1-1 right down to
three minutes to go in the third period when the Ice Kats scored the go ahead goal with just under 3 minutes left in the game. Brampton began to press to score the equalizer during the final 2 minutes of the game. Peterborough held off the Brampton offensive onslaught and was able to capitalize on a Brampton defensive error which allowed Peterborough to score the important insurance goal with less than a minute to go in the game to take a 3-1 lead, cementing the win and capturing the gold medal. The gold medal win was a result of strong team play by all the Ice Kat players as well as solid goaltending from both Ice Kat goaltenders during each of the five tournament games.
