BB Ice Kats win Round 2 in Overtime thriller versus first place Whitby Wolves!
The girls demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination in overcoming their heavily favoured rivals from Whitby. The Wolves entered the series as regular season champions of the East Division of the LLFHL.
The girls traveled to Whitby for Game 1 on Tuesday February 21 where they lost a hard fought game 2-0 on two late goals in the 3rd period. Courtney Townson was solid for the Kats in net in the loss.
On Thursday February 23, the team hosted the Wolves for Game 2 where they earned a 1-1 draw. Hannah McKenzie was stellar in the first period to hold Peterborough in the game during an early Whitby onslaught. Whitby took the lead in the 3rd period but Natalie McVicker struck back quickly with a “bar down” wrist shot to square the score. Alexis Tataryn earned an assist on the play.
The girls went into Game 3 trailing 3-1 in the “first to 4 points” series and needing a win in regulation time to push the series into a sudden victory overtime period. McVicker struck again with another highlight reel goal in the 3rd period to provide the Kats with a lead they would not relinquish. Emma Belk and Grace Murphy added assists.
Olivia Onafrychuk ended the 4 on 4 overtime period by scoring the game winning goal on a great shot from the point to secure the series victory.
The Kats now look forward to their East Division Final series versus the Napanee Crunch. Go Kats Go!
