Peewee BB Ice Kats: Strong First Half 2016-17 Season
The Peterborough Peewee BB Ice Kats have put together a strong first half to the 2016-17 hockey season. The girls have posted a record of  24-12-1 including exhibition games, tournaments & Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL) play and have shown themselves capable of competing at the top of the category with victories over division leading teams from Toronto, Scarborough & Napanee.

The girls began the season by winning the Silver medal at the Markham-Stoufville Starfest in September. In pool play, the girls defeated the North Simcoe Capitals 3-0 in the opener, lost to North York 2-1, and finished up with a 6-0 win over North Durham. The girls played North Durham again in the quarter finals and came away with a convincing 10-1 win. The girls played a very strong Toronto Leaside squad in the semi-finals and came away with a 3-2 victory in a Shootout. Hannah McKenzie played  very well to earn the win, Delaney Hancock score both goals for the Kats in regulation time and Tieler Laurie netted the shootout winner to seal the victory and a rematch with North Simcoe in the finals. The girls suffered a 2-0 loss in the Championship game.

In October, the girls played in the Clarington Applefest tournament and got off to a great start with a 1-0 victory over the Central Division leading Scarborough Sharks. Courtney Townson earned the shutout victory and Delaney Hancock scored the game winner. In the 2nd game, the Kats outpaced the Durham West Lightning 3-0. Hannah McKenzie earned the shutout. The girls looked to be on pace for another tournament playoff heading into the 3rd period leading Kanata 1-0 on a goal by Taylor Yanagdiara; however, Kanata scored 2 quick goals in the 3rd period and added an empty netter to compete the comeback victory over the Kats. The girls lost their final game in pool play 1-0 to the hosts from Clarington.

The girls captured the Gold medal at the Peterborough Ice Kats tournament in December by posting a 4-1 record including victories over Syracuse, Georgina & Scarborough and a 2-0 victory over Lindsay in the Championship game.

The coaching staff (consisting of Darryll Hancock, Michael Williams, Kyle Tataryn, Jeff Fife, John Morton, Ian Jeffrey and Shawn Carmichael) give the players a lot of credit for their positive approach to training and commitment to become an excellent team that consistently competes at the highest level of their category. The girls have worked very hard since last spring to raise the caliber of their game by participating in a 10,000 Shot Challenge and a 5,000 Touches training program to develop their puck skills. Beginning in the fall, the team held weekly dryland training sessions and has completed a block of Power Edge Pro skill development sessions. We look forward to our Power Skating program in the New Year.
