The Peewee BB Ice Kats claimed the gold medal in their home
tournament Dec.4 with a convincing 2-0 victory over the Lindsay Lynx in the
championship game. Ashtyn Hickey lead the attack with 2 goals on assists by
Taylor Yanagdiara, Grace Murphy, Olivia Onafrychuk and Delaney Hancock. Hannah
McKenzie provided shutout goaltending to anchor a solid defensive effort by
Beth Morton, Koo Williams, Tieler Laurie, Alexis Tataryn & Onafrychuk.
The girls bounced back from a 4-0 opening game loss to Lindsay with convincing victories over the Syracuse Nationals, Georgina Goldenhawks and Scarborough Sharks in order to qualify for a rematch with Lindsay in the finals.
In the game versus Syracuse, goal scorers were Murphy, Hickey, Hancock & Kiera Fife. McKenzie & Courtney Townson shared the shutout between the pipes. Fife, Murphy, Laurie, Emma Belk, Natalie McVicker and Morton added assists.
Against Georgina, Delaney Hancock paced the attack with 6 assists and Kiera Fife netted 3 goals to earn the hat trick. Townson earned the shutout.
The girls earned a 3-0 victory over Scarborough in the final game of the round robin to stamp their ticket to the finals. Townson earned her 2nd consecutive shutout in the win. Hickey, McVicker & Yanagiara scored the goals. Murphy and Morton recorded two assists each.
The girls are looking to continue their winning ways in LLFHL East Division play where they have steadily climbed the standings following a 0-2 start to the regular season. The girls currently sit 1 point out of 3rd place with an 8-6-1 record.
