Intermediate A wins gold in home tournament
The gold medal game came down to a rematch with the Brampton Canadettes to decide the gold medal after a 2-2 tie in round robin action.
Both teams played strong defensive hockey not allowing many good scoring chances for either team. Brampton gained a 1-0 lead in the second period which held up until the final 6 minutes of the 3rd period. Marlaina Fox fired home a rebound to tie the game with about 5 minutes left to go in the game. Right from the next faceoff, Chloe Dion took the puck down the ice and deked the goalie to take a 2-1 lead just 9 seconds after the tieing goal. Dion added the empty net insurance goal in the last minute of the game to lock up the gold medal.
The gold medal win was a result of strong team play by all the Ice Kat players as well as solid goaltending from both Ice Kat goaltenders during each of the four tournament games.
